It can be tough to get the gluten free diet right and to deliver something uncompromisingly delicious. But it certainly isn’t impossible to pull off a gluten-free wedding if you start getting creative!

Although a gluten free menu means no wheat, therefore no bread, there are grains that are still suitable for coeliacs. Rice, Quinoa, Amaranth, Buckwheat and Corn in any form can serve as great sides or can be incorporated directly into a dish. Buckwheat, for instance, can add a nice nutty taste to pie crust while Quinoa can serve as a wonderful grain salad.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your allergen friendly wedding food, here is a mini guide to building your menu.

Canapés

From stilton cheesecake to beef carpaccio on parmesan crisps, Martha Stewart has quite a collection of gluten free wedding appetizers that are exploding with flavour. Each bite-sized canapé uses basic, readily available ingredients and achieves the perfect balance between sweet and savoury. If however, you’re planning on having a simpler selection, lay out some cheese platters with cured meats, chutney, nuts and other yummy gluten free nibbles.

Mains

Opting for a Mediterranean inspired menu will naturally lend itself to a gluten free wedding. Get inspired by the seaside and serve some fresh grilled fish accompanied by seasonal vegetables.

Alternatively serve up a succulent roast chicken, with silky mash and buttery peas. In our experience, this is always a crowd pleaser!

Desserts

The wedding cake is a heavily anticipated part of the meal. What flavour has been chosen? How many tiers will it be? Will it be indulgent, decadent and worth every calorie? Why not beat the odds and serve up a sky-high macaroon tower.

Presenting your guests with this alternative dessert is a trendy and fun way serve a gluten-free “cake”. The small French biscuits are made from a mix of almonds, egg whites and sugar to create a crisp yet chewy meringue. They are then filled and sandwiched together with a creamy ganache. Best of all, they come in different flavours and colours to please everyone. My personal favourite, and the one I crave on daily basis, has got to be Salted Caramel.
